Industry players converged on this this year’s Digital Signage Expo (DSE), which took place from February 12th-13th in the Sands Expo, Las Vegas, to experience the latest and greatest in digital signage solutions. Multi-screen, enriched interaction and ultra-high resolution displays were a consistent theme around the show floor. VIA showcased a number of compelling demos inside our booth, focusing on all-in one solutions for large scale architectural and standard video walls as well as Android-based solutions with enhanced customer engagement opportunities for a host of environments.
The highlight of the VIA booth was an eight-panel architectural video wall in our Fishbone configuration. Powered by a VIA DS-16 multi-display media server and running VIA MaxWall software to configure the layout and VIA MagicView™ content management software to design and schedule the content, the eye-catching demo drew in a lot of curious spectators at the show. This installation has already been deployed in a number of cinemas in Taiwan and provides a great centerpiece to capture attention.
Another popular demo was a 1×4 digital menu board and 2×2 video wall all driven by a single VIA DS-8 multi-display media server. For this movie theater themed demo VIA partnered with Cinema Scene and utilized their Next DSS software and specially designed content to showcase the scenario. As visitors came through our booth we received many requests to buy hotdogs and drinks which were advertised on the displays speaking to the power of the demo.
For those looking for simpler, single-screen deployments VIA had two demos running off our VIA ALTA DS Android-based media players. The first was a collaboration between Capital Networks of our ISV (Independent Software Provider) program providing a hospitality example for a high-end hotel. Utilizing their Audience for Android software, the demo integrated a dynamic NFC feature which allows users to take away more information from messages displayed on digital signage with a tap of their NFC-enabled phone, automatically opening a Web page associated with the message displayed on screen.
The second VIA ALTA DS demo was a coffee shop digital menu board and included a dynamic social media engagement solution from ReqVu which allows consumers to act on and earn rewards from companies, closing a trackable loop between signage, the consumer and actual purchase behavior.
The breadth of innovation on display at DSE 2014 provides a great example at the speed in which the industry is moving and the exciting opportunities which will be coming to screens everywhere this year.
